Don’t Let Dandruff Prevent You From Locking Your Hair
I have had an itchy flaky scalp for a very long time. During my relaxed hair days, I saw a dermatologist and she advised me to continue using dandruff shampoos, but to wash my hair often. Consequently, I had dandruff shampoos in rotation. However, I would not wash my hair more than once per week. I’m sure she meant more often than that, but chemically relaxed African-American hair is very dry and time-consuming to wash and style. With my natural hair, I washed my hair with Giovanni’s Tea Tree Triple Threat Shampoo and/or conditioner every couple of days. Washing often with this natural anti-dandruff product worked miracles for my scalp.
One of my major concerns with growing dreadlocks was my misconception that I would not be able to wash my hair for months. I am so glad that I found You Tube videos of others, who were washing their dreadlocks every week or two. I started my loc journey after being natural for about 6 months. I went to a professional loctician and she started my dreadlocks with comb coils. So, after two weeks of having comb coils I washed my hair. Since then I have been washing my hair every week to week and a half. It’s okay to wash your babylocs as often as you washed your chemically relaxed hair.
