Loc Journey at 1 Year
I have finally reached the first birthday of my dreadlocks. 12 months ago I went to a professional loctician and she comb coiled my hair. I have not been back since. Instead I wash, re-twist and maintain my own locs every week to week and a half. I feel like a survivor because there were so many times during this loc journey when I felt like cutting off my locs and going back to my loose natural hair. It can be very frustrating searching for parts in my hair after washing. It can be very tiring holding my arms up while re-twisting my hair for 2 hours. It can be frustrating comparing my loc progress to others when my hair seems to be locking more slowly. With all that said, it feels rewarding to have made it to 12 months. If you are new to locking your hair, then hang in there because if I can do it so can you.
I am practicing, but not mastering patience.
